On 27–28 May, the Reserve Bank and Australian Treasury hosted a G-20 conference on ‘Globalisation, Living Standards and Inequality: Recent Progress and Continuing Challenges’. The papers presented at the conference are available on the Bank’s website. The conference volume, which includes revised papers and discussion, was released on 16 September. The following is the introductory chapter of the volume by Dr David Gruen, Head of the Reserve Bank’s Economic Research Department, and Mr Terry O’Brien, Head of the Australian Treasury’s Macro Dynamics Unit.
